A baby was coming home today, and Rosie was ready. For weeks, Rosie had practised on Teddy: rocking, patting, peekaboo, and a song that nobody else in the whole world knew: "Who's that peeping? Who's that near? Somebody big, and I'm right here." Teddy never cried once. Then, outside, a car door went... clunk.A baby was coming home today, and Rosie was ready. For weeks, Rosie had practiced on Teddy: rocking, patting, peekaboo, and a song that nobody else in the whole world knew: "Who's that peeping? Who's that near? Somebody big, and I'm right here." Teddy never cried once. Then, outside, a car door went... clunk.

The front door opened, and there, in a pale yellow blanket, was the baby. Rosie tiptoed close. "Hello," she whispered. "I'm your big sister." Slowly, the baby opened one eye. Then a mouth. A very, very big mouth...

WAAAAAH! For somebody so tiny, the baby was very, very loud. And not much fun yet, either. No football. No hide-and-seek. Not one single joke. All the baby did was sleep, cry and fill nappies. So many nappies. Then the doorbell rang. Ding-dong!WAAAAAH! For somebody so tiny, the baby was very, very loud. And not much fun yet, either. No football. No hide-and-seek. Not one single joke. All the baby did was sleep, cry and fill diapers. So many diapers. Then the doorbell rang. Ding-dong!

Ding-dong! It rang all day long. There were presents for the baby, and cards for the baby, and cuddles for the baby. "So tiny!" said everyone. "So sweet!" Rosie stood in the hall with Teddy, waiting for somebody to say hello. Nobody did. So Rosie decided to be a bit louder.
