How to order a personalised storybook, step by step

Making a book takes about five minutes, and you see your child’s pages before you pay anything. Here is exactly what happens.
1. Choose a story
Browse our Stories page. Some books star one child, some have room for brothers and sisters, grandparents, the whole family or even the family pet. Each story page shows every page of the book, so you can read it all first.
2. Tell us who is in it
Type your child’s first name and choose whether the story should say "she", "he" or "they". For family books, you add each person in turn: children from eldest to youngest, then the grown-ups or grandparents, then the pet if you like.
3. Add a photo
A clear photo from your phone is perfect. If there are other people in it, just tap your child’s face. You will be asked where to save the book (your email, or Google), so you can stop and carry on later on any device.
Tip: See our guide to choosing the best photo for a few tips that make a big difference.
4. Pick the painting you like best
We paint your child as a storybook character, usually in about a minute. You will see two versions and choose the one that looks most like them.
5. See the first pages, free
We paint your child into the first pages of the book so you can see exactly how it will look, and you can read the whole story with their name in it. If you love it, carry on. If not, there is nothing to pay.
6. Choose digital or hardcover, and add a message
You can write your own message for the first page, or leave it and we will add a lovely one for you.
- Digital book, £12.99: a beautiful PDF in your inbox within minutes, to read on any phone, tablet or computer, send to a Kindle or share with the family.
- Hardcover book, £34.99: a 20 cm square hardcover on thick silk paper, printed in the UK and posted free. The digital book is included.
7. Pay, and we paint the rest
Pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. We then paint your child into every page and email you the finished digital book. Hardcovers are printed and posted to you. You can follow your order from the link in your email.
