It was Christmas Eve, and snow was falling softly over the village. Isla was far too excited to sleep, so she pressed her nose to the window and watched the sky.

Then, with a jingle and a bump, something landed in the garden. It was a very small reindeer, all tangled up in a string of fairy lights.

Isla pulled on her coat and wellies and tiptoed outside. "I'm Juniper," said the reindeer. "I'm the smallest of Santa's reindeer, and I've fallen off the sleigh!"

"Without my silver bell, the sleigh can't find its way," Juniper sniffed. "And I dropped it somewhere in the Snowy Wood."

So Isla took a lantern, and off they went into the Snowy Wood. A friendly robin hopped ahead to show them the way.

High up in a fir tree, something shone. The silver bell! Isla climbed onto Juniper's back, stretched up as tall as she could, and reached it.

Ring-a-ling! The moment the bell rang, Juniper's hooves lifted off the snow. Up they flew, over the wood and into the starry sky.

There was Santa's sleigh, waiting above the clouds. "Ho ho ho! Juniper, you're back!" Laughed Santa. "And who is this brave helper?"

Isla helped deliver presents all night long. Down chimneys and under trees, over rooftops and far away, until every sack was empty.

When a snowstorm swirled around the sleigh, Isla rang the silver bell as loudly as she could. Its clear sound led them safely through the clouds.

As the sky turned pink, Santa brought her home. Juniper gave her a snowy nuzzle. "Thank you, Isla," she whispered. "You saved Christmas."

On Christmas morning, under the tree, there was a tiny parcel. Inside was a little silver bell and a note: "For Isla, who saved Christmas. Love, Juniper."
