Books for big firsts: first wobbly tooth, first swimming lesson, first show

Children meet lots of firsts, and some of them are a bit scary. A story where they are the one who is brave, in exactly that situation, can make a real difference on the day.
The first wobbly tooth
The Tooth Fairy’s Terrible Cold begins with a tooth coming out in the middle of a fish finger. That night the Tooth Fairy arrives with a dreadful cold, and your child becomes her helper for one very busy night. The note under the pillow next morning ends: "P.S. Brush that gap."
Learning to swim
In The Mermaid Who Couldn’t Swim, your child meets a little mermaid who goes round in circles, and they learn together. It is gentle about the scary bit, putting your face in the water, and it ends with letting go of the side for the very first time.
A first show, or anything with butterflies
The Shoes That Wouldn’t Stop Dancing is for any child with a wobbly tummy before a show, an assembly or a first class. The old lady who owned the magic shoes tells them the secret: "The music does the remembering. Your feet just listen."
Tip: Read the book a few times in the week before the big day, then once more the night before. Familiar stories are calming.
